The Mystery of the Missing Tuba
The Brightville Band was ready for the parade.
But when you called for Tuba there was silence.
"Tuba’s missing!" the flute cried. "We have to find him!"
Together, you decide to look for clues.
[[Go to the playground->Playground]]At the playground you spot two things:
* The **swing chains** jingling like someone just leapt off.
* The sandbox with **deep round footprints**.
Which clue do you follow?
[[Check the swing chains->PlaygroundSwings]]
[[Check the footprints->PlaygroundFootprints]]It looks like Tuba was swinging so high he almost flipped upside down!
He must have run off after.
[[Continue to Main Street->MainStreet]]You see the trail of footprints leading out of the sandbox towards the Main Street.
That must have been Tuba!
[[Continue to Main Street->MainStreet]]On Main Street, two new clues appear:
* A trail of **rainbow sprinkles** scattered on the sidewalk.
* A line of **melted chocolate ice cream** dripping toward the curb.
Which do you check?
[[Follow the sprinkles->MainStreetSprinkles]]
[[Check the chocolate drips->MainStreetChocolate]]You ask Mr. Jones, who runs the ice cream shop. He says Tuba must have dropped them when he ordered the triple-scoop special.
When you ask where Tuba went next, Mr Jones points his scoop toward the park entrance.
[[Head toward the park->OakPath]]The chocolate shows Tuba must have headed to the park while eating his tasty ice cream cone.
[[Head toward the park->OakPath]]In the park you find two strange sights:
* A bunch of **balloon strings** tangled in the grass.
* A row of **knocked-over traffic cones** like giant orange hats.
Which clue do you follow?
[[Check the balloons->ParkBalloons]]
[[Check the cones->ParkCones]]Kids laugh that someone tried to grab them all at once.
"He was big and shiny!" they say, pointing toward the meadow.
[[Head into the meadow->Meadow]]Mr. Green grumbles that somebody marched right through them, stomping in a zigzag line that leads toward the meadow.
[[Head into the meadow->Meadow]]The meadow is breezy and bright. You notice two more clues:
* Shredded **kite tails** snagged on a fence post, fluttering toward the far hill.
* A wide **puddle** with perfect round ripples, as if a big brass bell plopped in and out.
Which clue do you follow?
[[Follow the kite tails->KiteHill]]
[[Inspect the puddle->PuddleTrail]]The kite tails point like arrows up the slope.
You crest the hill and see a path heading toward the old oak grove.
[[Head to the oak grove->OakPath]]You step around the wide puddle—more round ripples lead off like stepping stones.
They curve toward the old oak grove.
[[Head to the oak grove->OakPath]]At the edge of the park, bits of parade **confetti** sparkle on the ground, forming a wobbly arrow.
A low, brassy *snore* rides the breeze from deeper in the trees.
[[Follow the sound->Tree]]Under the biggest oak, the grass is pressed flat into a wide circle.
The *snore* grows louder.
[[Peek closer->Reveal]]There’s Tuba—fast asleep beneath the branches, his bell tipped like a pillow.
"Tuba! The parade’s about to start!" the band cries.
He yawns a booming *BWOOOOAHHH* that shakes the leaves.
"I guess I had too much fun this morning!"
The band helps him up, and together they march back just in time.
When Tuba blasts his first proud note - *BWOOOOOM!* - the crowd cheers loudest of all.
**The End**
